The President's View - June 2008

Wow! Another great Motor Tour! Thanks to everyone who came and participated!

Opening night was in Hamel at Hall of Fame member Scotty’s Bar & Grill.

A little rain started our morning at the Chain of Rocks Bridge, but once over the bridge the day was sunny and fun! The dinner at Lincoln was fantastic – the gym was converted into an amazing banquet facility and the food was absolutely top notch! Elvis Himselvis and his 5 piece band was wonderful – and the last number of the evening was by our own “3 J’s” !!! Their song is now posted on YouTube for the rest of the world to see! A link from our website is also available!

The Sunday stops were wonderful and what a beautiful day!

RIP Montana

We are sad to relay the news that Montana, the beloved mascot of Rich Henry’s Rabbit Ranch, passed away. Montana sat on the counter at the Rabbit Ranch taking care of Rich for years, performing her “autograph” trick, and entertaining visitors from near and far.

Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to Rich and his family on the loss of his very special Route 66 celebrity.

The 3 J's Live!

This presentation, courtesy of Pontiac Tourism was performed at the 19th Annual Route 66 Association of Illinois' Hall of Fame Banquet in Lincoln, IL.

Members of the 3 J's are Joe Gnaidek, Johnny Miller and John Weiss.  This trio was originally formed as a group on June 7, 2008 - a full 5 minutes preceeding their performance.

Why Route 66?

So, why should we promote, preserve, educate and enjoy Route 66?

Well let's see, it was the first major highway to connect 8 states going from Chicago, IL to Santa Monica, CA. It is the Mother Road with lots of neat places to visit. Have you seen the 3 Muffler Men? They are in Illinois, one in Wilmington, IL at the Launching Pad Diner now dressed as an astronaut. Another is in Atlanta, IL done over as Paul Bunyan. The third is in Springfield, IL at a tire place on Wabash St.
