Landmark Status Sought For Lamplighter's Indoor Pool

The Lamplighther in Springfield was perhaps the first motel along Route 66 to have an indoor swimming pool. While the former motel has been converted today into a residential development, the vintage pool remains. The Lamplighter's current residents are seeking landmark status for the historic swimming pool.

Riviera Roadhouse To Re-Open Soon!

The Riviera Roadhouse in Gardner is slated to re-open soon!

According to the new owner,Bob Kelly, the famous Riviera should re-open within a week or two. The same outstanding highway food, Riviera recipes, and familiar faces of employees will be obvious.

Everything will be the same. Bob said his goal is to save this icon and continue to help families and travelers make Route 66 memories. Work is progressing nicely, to clean, paint, and bring up to code this famous structure.

It is extremely important that we all support this ambitious preservation project. Make plans to visit soon!

The streetcar will remain. Some needed work will now be scheduled. Stay tuned for more detailed updates.

Route 66 Magazine Features Documentary Based on Weiss' Book

We congratulate John and Lenore Weiss for the recognition they recently received in Route 66 Magazine!

Route 66 Magazine

It contains a story about a travel documentary based on their book, Traveling the Historic Three: Route 66, The Dixie and Lincoln Highways.

What great publicity for the Mother Road!

Luxembourg Films on Route 66

By John Weiss

Seeing travelers from around the world is not an unusual site on Route 66. Tourists with cameras, and independent film and news crews are also a common sight on this famous highway.

However, this group was different. They were here to film segments of a feature film for a movie studio in Luxembourg.

First it is important to note that Luxembourg is a small European country near Germany. They speak a distinctive language of their own. As a result, distribution of a feature film from Luxembourg is limited to mainly their country.
