Looking for Luna Cafe Photos

We need our members' and readers' help!

We need all the historical information and photos of the Luna cafe from 1924 up until about 1950 for a project the Illinois Association is working on with the Route 66 Association of Missouri and the Friends of the Mother Road.

Please dig deep and go thru your memorabilia! We are looking for photos of the Luna Cafe with a neon sign that fitted up at the top of the front gable that had a crescent moon between "Luna" and "Cafe." These photos may also show neon tubing on the eaves and roof!

Please forward any information you have to Jim Thole or Bob Gehl of the Neon Heritage Preservation Committee (Route 66 Association of Missouri).

Jim's email is 66thole@sbcglobal.net
Bob's email is rgehl66@earthlink.net

A Route 66 Travel Journal from Across the Pond

The Route 66 Association of Illinois is very pleased to share the experience of a recent journey across Route 66 by a couple from England. Peter was kind enough to submit the following travelogue to us on our website feedback form.

Peter & JillHi

I am taking the liberty of sharing my own experience of this great American institution having completed the 2,500 miles plus Chicago to Santa Monica journey with my wife Jill at the end of last week. For the last leg we were accompanied by our friends Margaret and Derek Smith who are UK residents but came up from their home in Venice Florida to join us.

Police and Fire Department History Burning to be Told in Special Exhibition

Local residents and tourists traveling to the Joliet community will soon be able to learn about the dynamic history of Joliet's police and fire departments with the October 26 opening of a new eight-month exhibition at the Joliet Area Historical Museum, 204 N. Ottawa Street, Joliet.

While viewing the exhibition Bucket Brigades to Tactical Units: Joliet’s Fire and Police Departments, on display through June 12, 2011, visitors will discover how technology and training have improved on-the-job efficiency—from common situations to catastrophic emergencies—allowing Joliet’s police and fire departments to better serve the public.
