Happy Update on Ernie Edwards!

We are pleased to report that Hall of Famer, Ernie Edwards (of Pig Hip fame) has returned home after spending several months in a nursing home.

Association board members visited Ernie and found him in great shape, looking forward to the Hall of Fame banquet at the Motor Tour in June!

Even though he's home, we're certain he'd still love to hear from friends and admiring Roadies alike.

Route 66 Association of Missouri's 22nd Anniversary Motor Tour

Route 66 Association of Missouri's 22nd Anniversary Motor Tour, September 9, 10, and 11, 2011.

The Route 66 Association of Missouri will be cruising through this nation's Civil War heritage and the Mother Road's past, present and future on its 22nd annual Motor Tour. This year's tour will be held September 9, 10, and 11, 2011. The tour will start in Miami, OK and will end at Skippy's Route 66 Restaurant east of Leasburg, MO.

Tour registration begins on Friday, September 9, at 4:00 p.m. at the Econo Lodge in Miami, OK (900 E. Steve Owens Blvd in Miami, OK), where a block of rooms has been reserved for tour goers. Registration will go until 10:00 p.m. Friday night. There will be information on activities and things to do in Miami, OK available at registration.

This day is for two purposes. First we will do our before tourist season Spring clean up. That means a little of everything inside and out. Some new concrete could also be in place by then. Plan on painting and a lot of cleaning inside the bay area.

The second event of the day is to wish a happy birthday to the Route 66 Association President Cathie Stevanovich. A special feast is planed for all volunteers.

The location in Godley is on Rt. 66 next to the Village Hall at the road that leads into the K Mine Park where we have had several picnics.

We will begin with a short ceremony to honor those who died in the Diamond Mine Disaster. The first bodies were recovered 128 years ago to the day. Forty six men and boys remain entombed.

Some preparation work has already been accomplished. Remaining is exterior painting, washing and installing paneling. Some interior demolition and painting, window washing, carpentry and some major floor cleaning and lots more. Of course lunch will be furnished by the Association and local residents.

Illinois Route 66 Mining Museum

A very exciting attraction is coming to Godley, IL - the Illinois Route 66 Mining Museum!

According to a press release from Godley, IL, the museum is made possible through a joint partnership between the grass roots group known as the GR3C, the Village of Godley and our very own Route 66 Association of Illinois Preservation Committee.
