Yost House Volunteers Honored

Our thanks to Pontiac, IL's Director of Tourism, Ellie Alexander, for providing the following information:

Members of the Livingston County Historical Society’s Yost House Museum committee gathered at Bernardi’s Restaurant on Wednesday, October 8th to celebrate the service of some of the volunteers who have contributed greatly to the ongoing success of the Yost House Museum.

The Yost House is located at 298 West Water Street in Pontiac and was built at the turn of the twentieth century (1898). The Z.F. Yost family was one of Pontiac’s most active families during their time in Pontiac. When the last member of the family passed away in the 1980s, the house, and all of the family’s belongings were given to the City of Pontiac. The Historical Society has, for more than 20 years, overseen the operation and general maintenance of the Queen Anne-styled home. The Yost Museum is one of Pontiac’s most interesting historic homes due to the fact that during its nearly 100-year entire life, it was owned and lived in by a single family. Inside the home visitors will find the furniture, decorations, clothing, silver service, several sets of hand-painted china, and an art collection that was amassed over the nearly 100 years that the Yost family lived there.
