February 2016

Preservation Meeting

Date:
Saturday, March 12, 2016 - 7:00pm

This annual event will again be held at the Route 66 Family restaurant in Dwight, IL, located on old Route 66 across from the historic Texaco Station. The purpose will be an update on many subjects of interest to you dedicated preservationists. John Weiss, preservation committee chairman suggests that you arrive around 6:00 PM. That is early enough to have dinner before the meeting; the food is excellent.

Although not absolutely necessary, if you can, call Preservation committee chairman, John Weiss, at 815-458-6616 to let him know that you are planning to attend.

Cleanup Day at the Route 66 Museum in Pontiac, IL

Date:
Saturday, April 9, 2016 - 9:30am

The museum, the displays, the Waldmire Road Yacht and more need a sprucing up before tourist season. Over 30,000 people come and visit our displays every year. This of course causes some wear and tear. A good cleaning is necessary. Lunch will be provided by the Route 66 Association. It is a known fact that, “we work for food.”

Although not absolutely necessary, if you can, call Preservation committee chairman, John Weiss, at 815-458-6616 to let him know that you are planning to attend.

We need to support our various attractions on Route 66. These sites provide memories that last a lifetime for our visitors from around the world. For us, it is the camaraderie of working and playing together that brings a sense of good will, well-being and pride to all of us.

Cleanup Day at Odell Standard Station

Date:
Saturday, April 23, 2016 - 9:30am

This is our annual paint up, clean up, fix up day at the historic station. Again, over 30,000 people visit this site every year. If not for the efforts to maintain our pride and joy attraction, it would surely deteriorate with this many tourists visiting such a small space. The camper, grounds and building inside and out needs a thorough cleaning. Some painting and repairs will also be required. Lunch will again be furnished by the Route 66 Association of Illinois.

Although not absolutely necessary, if you can, call Preservation committee chairman, John Weiss, at 815-458-6616 to let him know that you are planning to attend.
