The 66 News Photo Submission Requirements

Spring_2016_cover__page_1_of_2_.pngThroughout the last four years serving as editor of The 66 News, I’ve tried to make each issue read and look better than the last. To that end, I’ve determined that it’s necessary to implement some guidelines pertaining to photo submissions. By following these guidelines, the precious photos used in the newsletter will look as good as possible.

I certainly understand that many photos submitted for the newsletter are historic - and therefore not in a digital format (i.e. .jpg), but old and low-resolution photos don’t easily translate clearly to a printed format, like our newsletter. In order for them to appear clear and bright in a printed medium, I do have some requirements to set forth based on suggestions from our printer, Marlene:

For Existing photos processed from film:

Option 1 - Mail processed photos directly to Gina at:
Route 66 Association of Illinois
Attn: Newsletter Editor Gina Blitstein
Box 1940
Matteson, IL 60443

These photos will be returned to you if you request.

Spring 2016

cathie_1.jpgIt’s almost Spring... or some kind of season. All I know is we’re pretty close to tourist season and we’ve had a lot of visitors through the museum on the pleasant weekends. It’s nice to see that people want to get out on the road and we’ve had many local visits to our Hall of Fame and Museum in preparation for future adventures. Staycations are fun!

Dwight Happy 90th Birthday Route 66 Party

Thursday, April 21, 2016 - 1:00pm - 4:00pm

The Illinois Route 66 Scenic Byway is heading to Dwight, Illinois for the first 90th Birthday Party of Route 66 in the state (Route 66 was "born" in 1926). The party will be held on April 21, 2016 from 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM at the beautifully restored Ambler/Becker Texaco
gas station located at 417 West Waupansie Street (Old Route 66) in Dwight, which is located about 90 minutes south of Chicago and 25 minutes north of Pontiac, Illinois. The historic 1933 filling station dispensed fuel for 66 continuous years until 1999. After major restoration work, the building reopened as a Route 66 visitor center in May 2007. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2001.

Volunteer Gilders to Complete Several Community Projects in Pontiac, IL

Thursday, April 14, 2016 (All day) - Monday, April 18, 2016 (All day)

Over the week of April 14 through April 18, a group of volunteers from the Society of Gilders will return to Pontiac. The gilders have set themselves several ambitious projects for their time in town. Their primary project will involve applying gold leaf decoration on the proscenium arch that surrounds the stage at the Eagle Performing Arts and Conference Center. The design for the arch was based on photographs of the old Folks’ Opera House in Pontiac. The addition of gold leafing highlights will surely make the stage even more attractive.
