Carpenter Park Nature Preserve

Carpenter Park preserves a very early stretch of Route 66 pavement that winds from the park's entrance down to the Sangamon River's edge.The alignment leading to the original bridge across the Sangamon is located at the entrance to Carpenter Park off Cabin Smoke Trail. Now listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the curbed concrete provides a peek into the Mother Road's vintage past.
