Illinois Office of Tourism celebrates restaurants that are authentically Illinois, attracting visitors and locals to state’s diverse communities.

ATLANTA, IL – The Illinois Office of Tourism (IOT) and the Logan County Tourism Bureau today announced the Palms Grill Cafe located in Atlanta, is a recipient of an “Enjoy Illinois: Delicious Destination” award, which honors local food establishments around the state that are beloved destinations for visitors and locals alike. Palms Grill Cafe is among a select group of Illinois establishments to receive the unique designation from the tourism bureau. All award winners will receive a certificate from the state and a window cling to inform diners of the state designation.

Chester Henry to Sign His Book in Pontiac

Retired Illinois State Police Lieutenant and Association Hall of Famer, Chester Henry, has written a book about his experiences on and love of Route 66!

The author himself will be autographing copies of his book later this month at our Hall of Fame and Museum in Pontiac, IL. Please stay tuned to our website for for the date and time of Mr Henry's book signing as well as a feature story about this fine man.

This Saturday & Sunday, September 13 & 14th!

The public is welcome to check out The Mill Car Cruise-In this Saturday, September 13th from 1pm-4pm as part of a weekend of additional activities at the old historic restaurant located at 738 S. Washington in Lincoln, IL. The annual meeting of the Route 66 Heritage Foundation of Logan County, the group that owns the historic site, is also one of the last events of the season for, and co-sponsored by, The Railsplitter Antique Auto Club.

It's a Secret - Another Reason to Attend Our Hall of Fame Banquet!

A delicious all-you-can-eat buffet, a celebration of our newest inductees into our Association's Hall of Fame... and now there's ANOTHER reason to attend our Hall of Fame Banquet!

But it's a SECRET. The only way to find out is to go to Lincoln College, outside the Small Gym at banquet time. You don't need to attend the banquet to experience the surprise but, hey, you'll be there anyway, so why not buy a ticket and join us for an enjoyable evening of Route 66 festivities?

Bill Shea of Springfield Passes Away

We're sad to report that Bill Shea, of Shea's Gas Station Museum, World War II veteran and a great storyteller, has passed away.

Funeral arrangements have been finalized as follows:

Visitation will be at Kirlin Egan and Butler on Wednesday, December 18 from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM.

Funeral will be on Thursday, December 19 at 1:00 at Butler as well will burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery.

Memorial contributions can be made to Villa Angela, 715 N. 4th St. Springfield IL 62702.

New Dates for Hall of Fame Nominations Announced!

Please note that a new period for Hall of Fame nomination submissions has been implemented. The new Hall of Fame nomination period is between
October 1 and December 31, 2013.

What follows is the official Hall of Fame nomination information compiled by Kathy Miller, which succinctly and accurately details what is needed for nomination.

The Route 66 Association of Illinois Annual Hall of Fame Nominations

The Route 66 Association of Illinois will begin seeking nominations for the 2014 Hall of Fame. Nominations will be accepted from October 1st, until December 31st, 2013.

Another Work Day at Sprague Super Service

Thank you to our Preservation Chairman, John Weiss, for submitting the following information:

There is going to be another work day at the Sprague Super Service site, 305 E. Pine St, Normal, IL on Saturday, November 2, 2013 at 9:30 AM.

Last April we had a work day and accomplished a lot, but we were not able to complete the project. I am determined this time to finish the needed work in the downstairs visitor area that we started. I need your help! Having this wonderful site sitting there half finished is just not acceptable. We need to band together and help Terri get this project completed.

7th Annual Car Cruise-In at The Mill on 66 in Lincoln IL, Saturday October 12th 11am-3pm

The public is welcome to check out The Mill Car Cruise-In Saturday, October 12th from 11am- 3pm as part of Illinois' National Scenic Byway Week activities at the old historic restaurant located at 738 S. Washington in Lincoln, IL. The annual meeting of the Route 66 Heritage Foundation of Logan County, the group that owns the historic site, is also the final event of the season for, and co-sponsored by, The Railsplitter Antique Auto Club.

Admission for visitors is free and as always donations are welcome. Vehicle registration for the Cruise-In is $5.00, with all proceeds going to saving The Mill. There will also be a 50/50 drawing, live acoustic music from special guest performers, and a special lunch meal on sale by Hallie's Restaurant, which is owned by Brian Huffman, a descendant of the Huffman family who owned the restaurant in its heyday. Tours will also be available of the landmark.
