“WRT66” On the Air!

The antique radio station on the second floor of the museum was recently activated.This marks the first time that it was actually used to broadcast a live radio show. The award winning WRLR 98.3 radio station from Round Lake Heights, Illinois joined up with a UK “Fabulous 50s” station,Forest FM 92.3, who were touring and broadcasting live along Route 66 in Illinois.

"Get Your Kicks on Route 66" Car Show Update

Thanks so much to our Preservation Chairman, John Weiss, for the following update:

On May 1, 2013 there was a, “Get your Kicks on Route 66,” car show in downtown Pontiac, IL. This event generated over $800.00 for local cancer programs.

Also during this time, two trees, complete with plaques, were dedicated in the historic town square to the memories of Betty Estes and Lenore Weiss.

Strevell House Project Enters New Phase

Under the direction of Collins Miller and former U.S. Congressman Tom Ewing, work on the historic Strevell house has reached a new stage. The Strevell house, located on Livingston Street in Pontiac, Illinois, is the last remaining structure in Livingston County known to have welcomed Abraham Lincoln. The ongoing project to restore this historic structure is under the aegis of the Livingston County Historical Society.

2016 Preservation Meeting

Preservation meeting - Kathy Miller_0.jpgOn March 12th, twenty six enthusiastic people gathered in Dwight at the Route 66 Family Restaurant for the 2016 Preservation meeting. This meeting has several purposes. The main reason is to make plans for the year and to bring interested folks up to date on what is happening in Illinois. It is important that we maintain many of our sites and also discuss new ideas.

Blue Carpet Corridor Conference

The Blue Carpet organization held a Route 66 Conference on the weekend of October 29th to the 31st. This well run event was held in Edwardsville, Illinois at the wonderfully restored Wildey theater complex. The chairman, Cheryl Jett, did an outstanding job.

An abundance of speakers and presenters were on hand to provide their expertise on various aspects of Route 66 Preservation, Promotion, Education, Insight and Enjoyment. Folks were in attendance from numerous states and other countries. If you didn’t attend you missed out on a special one-of-a-kind experience.
