77 Cars Cross The Chain of Rocks Bridge
On Sept 26, 2008 77 various types and ages of cars, and one motorcycle crossed the Chain of Rocks Bridge enroute to Springfield Illinois for the Mother Road Festival.
We had cars from Indianapolis Indiana, Kentucky, Illinois and Missouri participate in the cruise. We followed the Old Route 66 thru Mitchell Ill to Edwardsville, from there we went thru Hamel to Staunton Ill. stopping at Henry's Rabbit Ranch. From there we went to Mt. Olive and stopped at Soulsby's gas station for some photos, then back to Route 4 and up to Springfield. While there, some of us participated in the parade of cars to kick off the start of the festival.
The cruise and festival were a great success with great weather and a great turn out of cars and people. Hope to do this same cruise next year, and take a different route along Route 66.
