Happy 25th Anniversary Wishes from Members Tony and Kathy Melone

The following letter from Association members, Tony and Kathy Melone, comes just in time to celebrate our Association's 25th anniversary and our 25th annual Motor Tour. Thanks to the Melones for such kind and thoughtful words. From one 25th anniversary celebrator to another, Happy Anniversary and many more!

Tony writes:

My wife Kathy and I are kind of new members, going on four years. We have been on the Motor Tour the past three years and are still amazed at our “Hidden Treasure,” Route 66 in Illinois.

We are lucky to have an old 55 Buick Super that we take on the road often, and we are looking forward to this year’s 25th anniversary of the organization. It happens to be our own 25th year wedding anniversary this year.

We were honored to have our car on the cover of the Illinois Route 66 Visitors Guide 2013 /2014. This picture was taken in 2012 with the Route 66 Association of Illinois Motor Tour. (This was a total surprise!) We have been having a blast since this magazine has been published, treated like rock stars everywhere we go. After owning the car for around 5 years, I think that we finally have the car running good enough to attempt the full route, all the way to Santa Monica, continuing on after next year’s motor tour that will start north and head south. Our plan is to keep heading west. Keep our fingers crossed.

I have attached some great pictures of us along the route. The cover of the Rt 66 magazine, Lou Mitchells in Chicago, and me with the “gas attendant” (I think his name is Mike) from the Ambler –Becker Texaco gas station in Dwight. We have a ton more pictures from our trips and keep them in photo albums that we take with us. People are amazed that Illinois still has a lot of places on Route 66 that we can still visit.

Looking forward to the motor tour this year.

Thank you for your efforts in keeping the old road alive.
