A Route 66 Stamp is Being Considered by Congress

Our Association is full of people dedicated to doing important and exciting things on behalf of the Mother Road. Grundy County Representative Ike Widner has been in touch with the United States Postal Service about having a Route 66 commemorative postage stamp issued. Here's what Ike's been up to:

Ike writes:

I have been working with the President and many men in the Senate and Congress for a United States Stamp honoring Route 66. I have sent a copy of my design (see below), hoping that they would take into consideration that Route 66 is the Mother Road of our great country. I have letter from the Postmaster General (see below) stating that I must send my design to the the Advisory Committee and they would look at the design I have created. I mentioned that I would like to have stamps for all eight states through which Route 66 passes with the state logo on top and the state flag in the middle.

Working and hoping that I could get the stamp has shown me that if you keep trying something will turn out in a good manner. This has been a fulfillment of my dreams to accomplish an American Stamp honoring our great treasure that is Route 66.
