Happy Holidays!
As we round the end of the year into the Thanksgiving-Christmas-New Year’s Season, let’s pause to give thanks for all those who help! Volunteering is a huge part of any association and we’re not just talking about the people who are always out front of any project. I’m talking about the members who email items to us, who call with questions, to members who can’t participate but faithfully renew their membership and look forward to their newsletter. An association is made up of people who share a common goal (preservation of Route 66) yet have real lives with jobs, children and extended family.
Route 66 is a living road – and we in Illinois have much to be proud of. More and more communities on the road are preserving their histories, realizing how valuable their Route 66 connections are, not only to themselves but to the world. The world truly stops by our Route 66 doors.
This year is our 20th Anniversary Motor Tour. We’ll be going from North to South, with our overnight in Springfield. If you have a photo from a prior Motor Tour that holds a special memory, you can either mail the photo to MEMORY QUILT, Hall of Fame & Museum, 110 Howard Street, Pontiac, IL 61764 or email your photo to cathiesb@earthlink.net. This year’s quilt will be a combination of Route 66 memories (photos) and fabric. All photos will be scanned and returned.
On behalf of the Board of Directors, we wish you all a safe, healthy, happy Holiday Season!
Looking forward to a dynamic 2009 with you!
Cathie Stevanovich
President, Route 66 Association of Illinois
